Last September we were asked to shoot some lifestyle product photography for Island Green Golf’s new product range for Spring and Summer 2021. The shoot was done at The Mere Resort near Knutsford in Cheshire.
As a lifestyle product shoot, we wanted to show the clothing in action as well as closer up shots of the products being worn. We had a big collection of clothing items to show and it was important that the models were also experienced golfers so that the photograph looked realistic, rather than just a model wearing the clothes. With any sporting activity the photographs not only have to show off the product but also have to do it in a way that looks authentic to the audience.
Lifestyle product photography, in my opinion, needs to have some action and movement. It needs to be dynamic. If it’s for a sports product it can’t all just be static shots or people standing there. We needed some action shots, so teeing, putting, playing a shot from a bunker and a group of people walking down the fairway chatting were all on the list. These kinds of shots make great social media content and high impact shots in a product catalogue.
Planning this kind of shoot is all important. When you have to work with a limited range of samples in pre-made sizes, you have to have models who fit the clothing samples. They also have to be proficient golfers. Finding suitable models can be tricky and it’s part of the service we offer.
We have a huge network of contacts in all kinds of fields. To find the right models we put out calls to our contacts to ask who they knew and within a couple of days we had found just the right people to model for us. The right size, the right look, proficient golfers and living near to the location, all of which helped keep costs down.
As with most shoots we needed to do a small amount of retouching and the final photos were delivered a few days after the shoot.
